The emotionally charged ballad, which depicts the painful final moments of a dying relationship, was written by A Great Big World's Ian Axel and Chad King alongside Mike Campbell. The song was originally featured on the duo's debut album, Is There Anybody Out There? (2013) but became a hit largely thanks to Christina Aguilera, who performed the track on US reality TV show So You Think You Can Dance as a collaborative effort with A Great Big World. The group laid down a new version of "Say Something" with Christina Aguilera and it was released as a single in November 2013. "Say Something” made it to Number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and in 2015 picked up the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
