"So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" is a song by American rock band A Perfect Circle, released on April 15, 2018, as the fourth single from their album, Eat the Elephant. The track takes its title from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book series. Originating written by guitarist Billy Howerdel for his side project Ashes Divide, it eventually transformed into A Perfect Circle material with Maynard James Keenan's lyrical contribution. Reminiscent of R.E.M.’s "It’s the End of the World as We Know It," the song combines a critique of modern materialism with tributes to late pop culture icons of 2016. Musically, it blends A Perfect Circle's art rock sound with orchestral flourishes set to an unusually upbeat tempo for the band. Shortly after its release, "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish" reached number 43 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Eat the Elephant, its parent album, hit number 1 on the Top Rock Albums Chart and number 3 on the Billboard 200.
