"What the Hell Have I" is a non-album single by American rock band Alice in Chains. It was released on June 7, 1993, as part of the soundtrack of the action comedy film Last Action Hero. Written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell and produced by Andy Wallace, "What the Hell Have I" was initially considered for their breakthrough album Dirt (1992), but it ended up being shelved. The song is built around an electric sitar riff played by Jerry Cantrell and features all the elements one would expect to find in a classic Alice in Chains track—roaring heavy metal guitars, ominous minor-key chord progressions, and Layne Staley's trademark raspy vocal delivery. Shortly after its commercial release, "What the Hell Have I" reached Number 19 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The original recording was included in the compilations Nothing Safe: Best of the Box (1999) while a remix version appeared in Music Bank (1999) and The Essential Alice in Chains (2006).
