Colombian reggaeton artist Carolina Giraldo Navarro, better known to the world as Karol G, has maintained a regular presence on the Latin charts since her breakthrough in 2017 with the Bad Bunny collaboration "Ahora Me Llama." Since then, she has been consistently delivering a steady stream of chart-topping hits and sharing the spotlight with artists like Daddy Yankee, Anuel AA, and Nicki Minaj. In 2022, Karol G released her second Spanish studio album Esquemas, which included the Becky G duet "Mamiii," a cumbia-tinged reggaeton that found the singer brushing off a toxic ex trying to reconnect with her. Written by Karol G with Daniel Echavarría Oviedo, Justin Quiles, Luis Miguel Gómez Castaño, and Daniel Oviedo, and produced by Ovy on the Drums, "Mamiii" was released as a single on February 10, 2022, and reached the top of the charts in Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, and the United States.
