Bell and James began their career penning tunes for the likes of Elton John, The O'Jays, Gladys Knight & the Pips before bagging a deal with A&M Records in 1978 and dropping the ultimate ode to living for the weekend that has retained its freshness and potency over four decades later. "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)" introduces itself with some wafty guitar work that feels like a blast of hot air on a summer's night before segueing into an irresistibly funky bassline. This swooning track from the Philly duo formed by Leroy Bell (drums, guitar) and Casey James (guitar, bass, keyboards) had all the trappings of a sure-fire disco hit, with the tune taking a while to lure you onto the dancefloor until it erupts with limb-flailing funk energy. Unsurprisingly, the pair went to number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1979 as well as hitting the Top 10 Soul chart as well, while also making an impact in the UK and charting at number 59 on the UK Singles Chart.

Great sound on this!! I've only heard one other version of this song and it was terrible. I'd prefer the radio edit, but there's a place to end this version without it being noticeable, so it's not that big a deal. Glad KV put this out!!
