"I Love the Night" sees Blue Öyster Cult dole out another generous helping of creepiness for a song palpably about vampires, released as a single in 1977 with "Nosferatu" on the flipside. "I love the night / The day is okay and the sun can be fun / But I live to see those rays slip away," they sing. Written by Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser, who also performs lead vocals on the track, "I Love the Night" features some of the similarly heady guitar work heard on the group's classic "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," released one year prior to "I Love the Night." The track was featured on their gold-certified fifth album Spectres—the successor to 1976's Agents of Fortune on which "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" was contained—and cracks open with one of Blue Ӧyster Cult’s biggest hits, Godzilla." Rich with harmonies and drawing on the band's occult obsession, "I Love the Night" is a haunting example of Blue Öyster Cult's knack for crafting psychedelic pop that crosses between worlds.
