Reworking a Phil Spector song originally written and recorded for his one and only vocal group, the Teddy Bears, Bobby Vinton scored a top 40 hit with his version of "To Know You Is to Love You" in 1969. Nicknamed "The Polish Prince" on account of his Polish heritage, the teen idol found himself thrust into the spotlight six years earlier with his cover of the caramel-smooth 1951 song by Tony Bennett, "Blue Velvet," which he took to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963 and number 2 in the UK in 1990. He went to number 34 with "To Know You Is to Love You," which was featured on his nineteenth studio album, Vinton, released in 1969. The LP contained covers such as "This Guy's in Love with You," first recorded by Herb Alpert, "Stand By Your Man," made famous by Tammy Wynette, and spawned singles in "The Days of Sand and Shovels" and "No Arms Can Ever Hold You."
