Asheville-born country music star and reality television personality Chase Rice pens a poignant homage to his friend—and the dog that saved him from taking his own life by suicide. "You were pretty beat up when I took you in / But you've come a long way since way back when," he begins in the opening verse of "Bench Seat." "Now one of my favorite things to do / Is hop in the truck and we just cruise." However, in the fictional song, the protagonist doesn't make it through and ends up taking his own life. "I always knew this day would come / Just thought I'd be the first called home / The little boy and her, don't you worry 'bout them / I've got 'em for now, see you soon, my friend," he sings poignantly. The song was featured on Chase Rice's 2023 album I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go to Hell. He also told the story of "Bench Seat" in visual form via a harrowing short film directed by Kaiser Cunningham.
