On his drugged-out sleeper hit “Under the Influence”, Chris Brown is “under the influence” of Robitussin cough syrup (commonly known as tussin) as he beckons to his seemingly nonchalant lover to come over. Originally released in 2019, the song’s steamy pre-chorus and chorus sections later got picked up by social media, and this renewed interest on TikTok transformed “Under the Influence” into one of Chris Brown’s biggest solo hits since 2016. It was included on the extended version of his 2019 Indigo album, but three years later debuted at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100, and continued to climb up the charts thanks to the accompanying music video. “Under the Influence” – which was certified platinum by the RIAA in October 2022 – marked the second production credit from Nigerian producer Kiddominant, who also turned his hand to Indigo (Extended)’s opening track, the Davido-featuring “Lower Body".
