A bronze sculptor and former rodeo champion, Chris LeDoux came hurtling onto the country music scene in 1971 with a tribute to his cowboy days, Songs of Rodeo Life. He spent the next three and a half decades writing about what he knows, turning in a succession of cowboy-themed albums from 1980s picks like He Rides the Wild Horses (1981) to 1990s offerings like Whatcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy (1992). Produced by Jimmy Bowen and Jerry Crutchfield, "Cadillac Cowboy" keeps this tradition going to close out Whatcha Gonna Do with a Cowboy with a bang. The imaginative song, which spins a thrilling yarn about a hard-up yet resourceful farmer turning his dying farm into a lucrative nightspot, made it to number 18 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart and number 16 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks.
