Formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1994, Cross Canadian Ragweed were leaders in the game of red dirt music, a country music sub-genre that gets its name from the red-hued Oklahoma soil. Comprising band members Cody Canada, Grady Cross, Randy Ragsdale, and Jeremy Plato, the group released five studio albums in the red dirt vein—which is more about a mindset than a definitive sound—before calling it quits in 2010. They also amassed three live albums that showcased their unique southern rock-meets-grunge-meets-country aesthetic. Stoner anthem "Boys from Oklahoma" was featured on their 1999 live album Live & Loud at The Wormy Dog Saloon and reps the group's Oklahoma roots as well as musing on the weed habits of neighbouring states. The song plays during the end credits of the 2009 Oklahoma-set stoner comedy Leaves of Grass, which was directed by Tim Blake Nelson and starred Edward Norton and Susan Sarandon.
