Flying the flag for neo-traditionalist country during the 1990s with a string of hits that included 1995's "I'm Living Up to Her Low Expectations," "I Let Her Lie" "Too Much Fun," and "Working It Out," by the 2000s, Georgia-born country balladeer Daryle Singletary was at the top of his game. On "I Never Go Around Mirrors"—released in 2002—he pours his voice into a 1973 classic by Lefty Frizzell, backed by fiddle and steel guitar. "I can't stand to see / A good man go to waste / One who never combs his hair / Or shaves his face," he sings. "A man who leans on wine / Over love that's told a lie / Oh it tears me up to see / A grown man cry." The song is included as the eighth track on his fourth studio album That's Why I Sing This Way, which featured contributions from the cream of the contemporary and classic country crop: George Jones, Dwight Yoakam, Rhonda Vincent, John Wesley Ryles, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Paycheck.
