A timeless Irish folk song, "Rattlin Bog" has been reborn, rehashed, and remade countless times over the decades. Like many folk songs, the origins of the traditional tune are unclear but it's thought the earlier version can be traced back to "March to the Battlefield" in Riley's Flute Melodies published by Edward Riley (1769 - 1829). One of the distinctive aspects of "Rattlin Bog" is its cumulative character. In a similar way to the structure of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," the song comprises a list at the end of each verse which expands throughout the piece and forms a a challenge for performers to pick up lyrical speed without messing up their lines. In 2014, David Craig put his speedy, party-starting stamp on the traditional and oft-covered song, showing us all how you can slam down with this centuries-old gem, and bagging one of his best-known numbers that he later included on his 2019 greatest hits album, The Hits Collection.
