Country and Irish hero Declan Nerney cut his teeth in local outfit The Hi-Lows before finding breakout success with the story of his life, 2012 gen "The Marquee in Drumlish," a tribute to the Irish venue of the same name on which he recalls wondering as a child "what it would be like to be a country star". Bearing the hallmarks of the country and Irish sound, and featured on his 2012 compilation Nerney's Gold: The Very Best of Declan Nerney, "Three Way Love Affair" arrived the same year as the aforementioned single and tells the story of a sticky love triangle, backed by a riot of fiddle and traditional country tinged with rock 'n' roll. Having served the scene since the late 1980s, Declan Nerney was inducted into the Irish Country Music Hall of Fame on the Late Late Country Music Special in October 2023, joining previous Hall of Fame inductees Big Tom, Daniel O'Donnell, Philomena Begley, and others. He marked the occasion with a performance of "Stop the World."
