Taking a leaf out of their idols' books, British heavy metal trendsetters Def Leppard formed in Sheffield in 1976 and looked to the likes of Thin Lizzy and David Bowie to create a sound that was equally packed full of huge riffs and huge melodies. Riding a tidal wave of fast guitars and nihilistic, wreckless lyrics ("I've got a bottle of pills to give me my thrills / And I know that I'm leading a life that kills") "Wasted" comes crashing through the windowscreen like a full-blown glam 'n' roll onslaught of raw metal power. The track was featured on the band's major-label debut studio album, On Through the Night which saw them take their top seat at the table of heavy metal heavyweights, also taking the album to number 15 on the UK Albums Chart and number 51 on the Billboard 200. In 2020, the group celebrated the 40th anniversary ofThrough the Night with a new remastered reissue of the album.
