Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh took his love of The Rolling Stones to the next level on this funkily abstract rendering of The Rolling Stones' classic “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.” Written by Mick Jagger, the hit kicked off The Rolling Stones' British Invasion takeover as their first number-one single in America, shooting to the top of the charts in June 1965. Devo included their version of the track—for which they needed approval from Mick Jagger due to its radical departure from the original—on their landmark 1978 album Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! a new wave tour de force which was produced by Brian Eno and thrust the synthesizer into the spotlight. Despite only peaking at number 78 on the US Billboard chart, the LP went on to acquire cult hero status. Devo famously performed the song that year on Saturday Night Live, wearing their iconic yellow boiler suits and letting the whole world know they don't play by the rules.
