The early R&B standard "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" first saw the light of day in June 1944 as a single by jump blues pioneer Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five. Written by Louis Jordan and Billy Austin, the track was released as the B-side to a cover of Johnny Mercer's chart-topping hit single "G.I. Jive." Soon after, Louis Jordan's rendition reached the top of the US folk/country charts and spend three consecutive weeks at Number 2 on the pop charts. In the years that followed, it was further popularized by Bing Crosby and The Andrew Sisters, Frank Sinatra, and Dinah Washington, who included the track on her 1957 album The Swingin' Miss "D." Even though it wasn't officially released as a single, Dinah Washington's version of "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" became one her signature songs and featured exquisite orchestral arrangements by producer Quincy Jones. Over the course of the next few decades, the track made its way to several compilations by the jazz vocalist and pianist.
