Arguably one of the biggest tracks from the Dire Straits' catalogue, "Walk of Life" is propelled by an earworm of a chintzy keyboard riff, played by Alan Clark, and pulls from Cajun music as well as 1950s rock 'n' roll. Mark Knopfler reportedly wrote the track as a homage to the street buskers of London and uses the song to portray a musician who makes money from 'singing golden oldies' like "Be-Bop-A-Lula" and "Mack the Knife," and appears to have a zest for life. Landing at the top of the single charts in Ireland while gracing the top ten with its presence all over the world, "Walk of Life" was the third song and fourth single from the group's landmark 1985 album Brothers In Arms. The chart-topping LP spawned a monster hit and MTV favourite in "Money for Nothing," as well as picking up two Grammy Awards, including Best Surround Sound Album for the 2006 Brothers in Arms (20th Anniversary Edition) LP.
