Written and produced by Berry Gordy, head honcho of Motown Records, "Do You Love Me" is one of the biggest hits to emerge from the era and remains a heavily spun classic to this day. In 1962, The Contours soared to the top of the charts with a scorching rock 'n' roll tale of a desperate lover sung—and screamed—by lead Contours vocalist Billy Gordon with backing vocalists including Hubert Johnson, Sylvester Potts, and Joe Billingslea. "Do You Love Me", which was included on the album Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance), spawned several iconic dance crazes of the 1960s including the Mashed Potato and the Twist, with alternative title “You like it like this" surfacing. "Do You Love Me" has been covered by a multitude of other artists over the years, including Brian Poole and The Tremeloes in 1963 and The Dave Clark Five in 1963 along with a cover by German pop group Preluders in 2004.
