With Swizz Beatz (Beyoncé, Drake) working his magic at the production controls and DMX's gruff, one-in-a-million bark, "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" brought raw hip-hop energy to the Billboard Hot 100 – and took DMX's career to new heights of fame. "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" was featured on the late New York firestarter's debut 1998 studio album, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, released on Def Jam. Despite initially rejecting the beat, DMX took it on and sold millions of copies with his tribute to the titular South Bronx crew, which was founded by siblings Darrin “Dee” Dean, Joaquin “Waah” Dean and Chivon Dean. Following DMX's death from a heart attack on April 9, 2021, "Ruff Ryders' Anthem" wound up in the limelight again, reaching number 16 in the US and posthumously becoming the late rapper's highest-ranking track. That's how Ruff Ryders roll.
