Elton John looked to the queer community for inspiration in his fictional tale of lesbianism, "All the Girls Love Alice," which was featured on the UK icon's landmark 1974 LP, Goodbye Hello Brick Road, (also home to "Candle in the Wind" and "Bennie and the Jets," among other favorites). The opening verse paints the picture of a well-to-do protagonist called Alice: "Raised to be a lady by the golden rule / Alice was the spawn of a public school / With a double barrel name in the back of her brain / And a simple case of mummy-doesn't-love-me blues / Reality it seems was just a dream / She couldn't get it on with the boys on the scene," he sings, adding more to Alice's story as the song progresses. Ultimately, Elton John veers off into dark, questionable and tragic territory before arriving at a bleak conclusion; Alice's untimely end. Nevertheless, "All the Girls Love Alice" is a bona fide fan favorite and one Elton John has a penchant for performing live.
