Freddy Cannon is looping the loop and having a ball in this candyfloss-scented trip to New Jersey's now-defunct amusement park, Palisades, which entertained the masses from 1898 until its closure in 1971. On his rollicking roller from July 1962, which was written by songwriter and game show creator Chuck Harris and is infused with the sound effect of people screaming on a rickety rollercoaster, Freddy Cannon sets out a fun-filled scene at the fairground to 'a swingin' place called Palisades Park' where he's doing it all: "Up like a rocket ship / Down like a roller coaster / Back like a loop-the-loop / And around like a merry-go-round." With an "awful cute" girl by his side, he's simply having the time of his life in this infectious hit which Freddy Cannon took to Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "We ate and ate at a hot dog stand / We danced around to a rockin' band / And when I could I gave that girl a hug / In the tunnel of love."
