"Carmen" is a song by Gene Watson from his Memories to Burn album. It's a Tex-Mex love story involving crossing the border, meeting a beautiful woman named Carmen, and tequila. "Oh Carmen, I had too much tequila / Between you and this Mexican moon, I'm gonna fall." The Texas-born-singer knows a lot about falling in love quickly. In 1961, he married Mattie Louise Bivins when he was 17 and she was 15. Watson recorded many hits including "Farewell Party" and "Love in the Hot Afternoon." His career has spanned over 50 years and although he isn't as well-known as other traditional country artists like Merle Haggard or George Jones, he is one of the most respected vocalists in the genre. In 2020, he was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry by Vince Gill.
The backing track for "Carmen" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
