The penultimate track on Greta Van Fleet's third studio album Starcatcher is a head-spinning marriage of histrionic vocal acrobatics, gnarly guitars that would give Led Zeppelin a run for their money. and expert drumming from Danny Wagner; all in all, a sweeping classic rock anthem that has one foot in the 1970s and one in the present day. Sonically inspired by Jethro Tull’s 1969 melter “Reasons for Waiting,” "Meeting the Master" draws on the essential themes of life and death, with Josh Kiszka wailing about the end and "tripping" at the top of his lungs. The Michigan-originating band worked with esteemed producer Dave Cobb (Slash, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton) for Starcatcher, who encourage them to weave in more touches of acoustic instrumentation than their previous offerings. The LP was released in July 2023 through Lava and Republic Records as the follow-up to Greta Van Fleet's 2021 album The Battle at Garden's Gate.
