Hadestown is a contemporary retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice the tragic tale in which Eurydice is condemned to the underworld forever. In this modern version created from the music, lyrics, and book written by Anaïs Mitchell, Eurydice is forced to find work in an industrial hellscape. The Broadway production was a huge hit across the board, logging eight wins at the 73rd Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. "Our Lady of the Underground" appears in an entr'acte at the speakeasy where Persephone works serving the workers. "Oh you could use a little pick-me-up / I can give you what it is you crave / A little something from the good old days," she sings, making an allusion to the era. Sung by Amber Gray, who plays Persephone in the musical, both off and on Broadway, this 2019 recording of the song was featured on the album Hadestown (Original Broadway Cast Recording).
