The sequel to the classic '90s film Hocus Pocus saw the spooky trio of Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Ann Najimy reprise their roles as the original witches while the movie's original composer John Debney was also invited back on board. "The Witches Are Back" is the jewel in the cauldron of the Hocus Pocus 2 soundtrack, marking a significant movement in the film's trajectory: the return of the Sanderson Sisters. A rock 'n' roll ride with energetic touches of glam, "The Witches Are Back" is actually a cover of Elton John’s 1974 hit “The Bitch is Back,” with additional lyrics penned by Bette Midler and Mark Shaiman. The song also makes an appearance during the end credits of Hocus Pocus 2, where the sisters can be seen singing it in a recording studio. Elsewhere on the soundtrack – which contains darker new themes written by John Debney – is a cover of Blondie's 1979 single "One Way or Another" and "Planet Claire" by The B-52's.
