Born Mathilde Gerner in Versailles, the French singer-songwriter known professionally as Hoshi released her breakthrough single, "Ta marinière, in 2018 and that same year received a nomination for the Révélation francophone de l'année award (Francophone Breakthrough of the Year) at the NRJ Music Awards. She has since notched up four albums while making her voice heard as an LGBTQIA+ representative. "Fais-moi signe (version orchestrale)" is a mesmerising embellishment of the original French indie pop song co-written by Hoshi alongside Marine Elodie Di Sante and Tristan Romain Imre Salvati and released in 2020. In 2021, Hoshi publicly revealed that she had been living with hearing loss since childhood and spoke about her Ménière's disease diagnosis. Over the lush orchestral arrangement of "Fais-moi signe (version orchestrale)" (2022), Hoshi confronts her diagnosis while bringing sign language into her live performances of the song.
