At first glance, James Taylor's soft-rock call-to-action from June 1976, "Shower the People," may seem like an odd choice for a title. However, listen more closely to the song's hippie-dippie chorus, and it all suddenly makes sense: "Shower the people you love with love / Show them the way that you feel / Things are gonna work out fine if you only will / (Do as I say, yes) / Shower the people you love with love / Show them the way you feel / Things are gonna be much better if you only will," sings the six-time Grammy Award winner on the opening track from his 1976 album, In the Pocket. "Shower the People" – which features harmony vocals from James Taylor's then-wife Carly Simon as well as orchestral bells and "vibes" from Victor Feldman – was given a new lease of life in 2020 when James Taylor made an appearance on NBC's The Voice to perform the track with the show's contestants. The video was filmed in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
