In July 2023, the video for Jason Aldean's track "Try That in a Small Town" sparked controversy for including footage of protests and robberies projected onto a courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee, where an 18-year-old Black man called Henry Choate was lynched in 1927. The song was featured on Jason Aldean's eleventh studio album Highway Desperado, which zoomed to the summit of the US Billboard Hot 100 in spite of the criticism surrounding that song. Coming-of-age rocker “Let Your Boys Be Country” is the second track on Highway Desperado and chronicles a boy's transition from childhood to adulthood, championing the freedom of growing up in the countryside.
