Sometimes interpreted as a sonic protest again the Vietnam War while also making an allusion to the large crowds of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, folk-rock favourite "Who'll Stop the Rain" was written by John Fogerty and originally recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival for their 1970 album Cosmo's Factory. Released as the B-side to "Travelin' Band," it was one of three double-sided singles from the album to crack the Billboard Pop top five, and the first of two singles, along with "Lookin' Out My Back Door," to go to number two on the US charts (Creedence Clearwater Revival hold the record for the most singles to make it number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 without ever scoring a number 1). In 1978, "Who'll Stop the Rain" was given a new lease of life when it was featured in the 1978 war movie of the same name, which starred Nick Nolte as a Vietnam veteran along with Tuesday Weld, Michael Moriarty, and Anthony Zerbe.
