Titled after a colloquial US expression often used when something goes wrong, "Ain't That a Bitch" is a song by American musician Johnny "Guitar" Watson, a key figure in the evolution of blues, soul, R&B, and funk. Included in the 1976 album of the same name, which was certified as a Gold Record shortly after its release, "Ain't That a Bitch" marked the end of Watson's transition from pioneering blues guitarist to flamboyant, funk-loving showman. Written by Johnny "Guitar" Watson himself (he actually played guitar, bass, and keyboards on the original track) the song tells the story of a man fed up with his day-to-day work life, which barely gets him through the month. Over the course of the next few decades, "Ain't That a Bitch" was sampled several times by hip-hop artists, including UGK ("Ain't That a Bitch (Ask Yourself)"), Jemini the Gifted One ("Funk Soul Sensation"), and Yo-Yo ("Home Girl Don’t Play Dat").
