"It Takes Two" is a song recorded by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston for Motown's Tamla label in late 1965. Written by Kim Weston's then-husband, William "Mickey" Stevenson, and Sylvia Moy, the song has a prominent romantic theme, suggesting life's joys, from dreams to love, are best shared. This duet, released in January 1967, became Marvin Gaye's most successful at the time, peaking at number 14 on the Billboard Pop charts and number 4 on the Soul Singles chart. In the UK, it also made a significant impact, reaching number 16. "It Takes Two" was praised for the superb blend of both singers' voices and was only surpassed in popularity by Marvin Gaye's latter work with Tammi Terrell. The track has been covered extensively throughout the years, including versions by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas, Donny and Marie Osmond, and Rod Stewart and Tina Turner, whose 1990 rendition was a hit in Europe.
