Kitty Wells aka the "Queen of Country Music" had already earned pioneer status when she recorded “How Far is Heaven,” written by Tillman Franks and politician and songwriter Jimmie Davis. Four years earlier, the Nashville-born star sealed her fate as a legendary and groundbreaking country artist when she scored the first number one Billboard country hit for a solo woman artist with her 1952 takedown of married men and infidelity, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." Released in 1956, "How Far Is Heaven" operated on the more wholesome end of the spectrum to tell the heartwarming tale of a little girl missing her late father. "How far is heaven? Let's go tonight / I want my daddy to hold me tight," she asks. "How Far is Heaven" may have only reached number 11 on the country charts, but remains one of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awardee's best-loved songs, rooted in a human message.
