Progenitors of the musical phenomenon of slap-bass, English jazz-funk trailblazers Level 42 formed on the Isle of Wight in 1979 and made titular reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Success came quite quickly for the group whose debut self-titled album spawned several hit singles in 1981, including "Love Games." Having found their signature style, maintained their winning streak for their next few albums and by their fourth full-length, Standing in the Light(1983) had scored a Top 10 hit. Released as a single in 1983, "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)" is illuminated by its catchy "living it up" refrain and gives the lead vocal reigns to Mike Lindup represents one the rare occasions Mike Lindup on lead vocals. This new wave nugget also gave the band their first Top 10 single and one of their essential songs.
