Written by Gary White and captured on wax by the genre-spanning singer in 1970, the single peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it stayed for 12 weeks, and gave Linda Ronstadt her first charting single in Canada, where it went to number 15 on the RPM 100 chart and number eight on the CHUM 30 chart. "Long Long Time," which was featured on Linda Ronstadt's second studio album Silk Purse (1970), paved the way for a Grammy nod (for Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance) in 1971. The track reached a whole new audience four decades later when "Long Long Time" was used to title the third episode of HBO's hit television adaptation of The Last of Us, also serving as a soundtrack to the poignant and loving relationship between characters Bill and Frank, with Bill (Nick Offerman) performing the song on piano in the show, accompanied by Frank (Murray Bartlett).
