Michael Ray Martin aka Arkansas-born country balladeer Martin Delray made the headlines with his 1991 rework of the Johnny Cash track "Get Rhythm," which went to number 27 on the Billboard Hot Country Tracks chart and even featured a vocal contribution from the "Man in Black" himself, who also stepped up for a cameo in the song's video. The cover formed the name of a Martin Delray album of the same name, on which "Lillie's White Lies" is also featured. Written by Billy Ray Reynolds and Wood Newton, this honky tonk-flavoured song sketches out the figure of a man who is reeled in by a lover, only to be spat out again by her white lies. "Lillie's White Lies" made itself known on the Billboard country chart, where it nestled in nicely at number 58. Meanwhile, Get Rhythm reached number 57 on the US Top Country Albums chart. Martin Delray released one more album, 1992's What Kind of Man, before hanging up his cowboy hat and retiring from country music.
