Hailed as one of the most celebrated Western music standards of all time, the forlorn "Tumbling Tumble Weeds" is an ode to the desertic landscapes of the American Southwest. It was originally a poem written by Canadian-American singer-songwriter Bob Nolan during his teenage years in Tucson, Arizona, in the early 1930s. Initially titled "Tumbling Leaves," the poem was later turned into a song while Bob Nolan worked as a caddy in Los Angeles. Its first recorded version dates back to August 1934, when Bob Nolan and his group Sons of the Pioneers released it as a single for Decca Records, enjoying a moderate degree of chart success. Only a year later, the song reached new heights of popularity after being featured in the 1935 Gene Autry film of the same name. Since then, "Tumbling Tumble Weeds" has become an essential entry in the Great American Songbook and was covered by artists like Bing Crosby, Frankie Lane, and Marty Robbins, who included it in his 1979 LP All Around Cowboy. Even though it wasn't officially released as a single, Marty Robbins' version remains one of the most popular renditions of "Tumbling Tumble Weeds."
