Megadeth get all apocalyptic on this end-of-the-world doom trip from their 1994 album Youthanasia. "Reckoning Day" depicts the biblical prediction of judgment day when God will judge us all. The band harness biblical imagery to deliver a cautionary tale about retribution and facing up to your sins. Dave Mustaine drew inspiration from the 1993 movie Tombstone starring Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer, specifically the line when Val Kilmer’s character says: “Make no mistake, it’s not revenge he’s after. It’s a reckoning.” The explosive "Reckoning Day" opened Megadeth's sixth studio album Youthanasia, released in November 1994 through Capitol Records and followed 1992's Countdown to Extinction. In spite of its heavy metal proclivities and outré cover art featuring babies hanging upside by their feet on a washing line, the album soared to number four on the Billboard 200 chart, and in 1995 was certified platinum for selling one million copies in the US.
