Many of us have frequented the type of small-town hair salon depicted in Megan Moroney's 2022 single. The one where you can catch up on all the local gossip while getting a blow-dry or your roots done. Here, she cycles through the unnamed town's latest community dispatches ("Well, Casey's having a baby / The high school football team won state"), accompanied by a twangy country soundscape that makes the characters and setting come alive. The country hopeful is on a mission to take country music off into a warmer new realm, away from the cold-hearted tales full of whiskey and regret. "Hair Salon" was co-written by Megan Moroney along with Ben Williams and Micah and Mackenzie Carpenter, and offered fans the first taste of the Georgia star's songcraft via her debut EP Pistol Made of Roses, which was released on Sony Music Nashville in July 2022 and paved the way for her celebrated full-length debut Lucky (2023).
