Mel McDaniel became the face of feel-good country barnstormers during the 1980s, notching up a string of hits such as "Louisiana Saturday Night" (1981) the chart-topping "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On," (1984), "I Call It Love" (1983), and many more. "Stand on It" also takes pride of place among the late Oklahoma star's prized possessions, shimmering as the lead single from his aptly titled 1986 album Just Can't Sit Down Music—the follow-up to his Top 40 US country album Stand Up—and rising to number 12 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. The rockabilly-referencing song also went all the way to number five on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. A Bruce Springsteen original, "Stand on It" was initially recorded by "The Boss" as a B-side single in 1985 and made an appearance in the 1986 black comedy flick, Ruthless People. Mel McDaniel's version brought him fame and several live television appearances, including a spot on Nashville Now.
