Metallica turned to thrashy punk rock for this snarling cover of "So What" by British anti-establishment royalty Anti-Nowhere League. The profanity-laced track was originally released in 1981 and banned under the Obscene Publications Act for its offensive lyrics, with the British police seizing all copies of the single from Anti-Nowhere League's distributors. Metallica's version of the offending object was contained on their expansive 1998 compilation Garage Inc. (with its cover photo by the legendary Anton Corbijn) which comprised a collection of their covers and B-sides to date, as well as their 1987 release, The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited. The metal titans showed themselves in a new light with versions of the Misfits' “Die, Die My Darling”, "Loverman" by Nick Cave, "Astronomy" by Blue Öyster Cult, and Black Sabbath's “Sabbra Cadabra” while repping Thin Lizzy on “Whiskey in the Jar”.
