Metejoor, aka Dutch-speaking Belgian pop singer Joris Van Rossem, scored a breakthrough hit in April 2021 with the Babet-assisted duet "1 op een miljoen"—which reached the summit of the Ultratop charts in Flanders—and kept up the momentum on subsequent single "Dit is wat mijn mama zei," which achieved chart-topping status the following year. A folksy version of "Laat ons een bloem" was first recorded by Belgian singer Louis Neefs in 1970—itself a cover of the 1968 English-language song "Leave them a flower" by UK TV personality Wally Whyton—and gained a new audience after it was taken on and performed by the cast of Belgium's televised musical drama #LikeMe. Metejoor performed his upbeat contemporary pop recreation of "Laat ons een bloem" in the penultimate episode of the Flemish TV show Liefde Voor Muziek, and released the song as a single caleld "Laat Ons Een Bloem (uit Liefde Voor Muziek)" in 2023.
