Halloween favourite "Skulls" begins in delightfully gruesome fashion. "Corpses all hanging headless and limp / Bodies with no surprises / And the blood drains down like the devil's rain / We'll bathe tonight," gleefully shouts Misfits's frontman and vocalist Glenn Danzig, who wrote the song in 1982 for the band's debut album Walk Among Us. You may not believe it, but "Skulls" is actually a love song; of the most disembodied, distorted kind. This horror-punk head-banger became one of the band's best-loved tunes, and was included on the 1986 compilation album Misfits (also known as Collection I), as well as taking pride of place on their debut album, which also contained the similarly horror-themed 1979 single "Night of the Living Dead." In 2016, The Lemonheads put a folky twist on the song for an acoustic cover contained on their 1990 EP Favorite Spanish Dishes, which also featured a reimagining of "Step by Step" by New Kids on the Block.
