"Foxy Foxtrot" is Nico Haak's best-known hit and calling card, a party-starting song that gets rolled out at celebratory occasions across the Netherlands. Nico Haak began his career in the 1970s after initially running a car paint shop with his brother. His talent for singing was discovered one day while at work and the rest is history, as they say. After cutting his teeth in the early to mid-1970s with the group Nico Haak en de Paniekzaaders ("Nico Haak and the Panicmongers")—whose breakthrough hit "Joekelille" won over audiences and listeners in 1973—Nico Haak set his sights on a solo career. Released in 1975, "Foxy Foxtrot" catapulted Nico Haak to the heights of national stardom, with the song also gripping hold of the German charts under the title of "Schmidtchen Schleicher." The meaning behind "Foxy Foxtrot" isn't deep—it's an unadorned paean to dancing—but that's arguably part of its charm.
