OutKast mixed sci-fi with rap for this radioactive reflection on alienation that referenced a classic hip-hop touchstone in the line, "Now throw your hands in the air / And wave 'em like you just don't care" while repping the "fish and grits" of the pair's Southern homeland. Big Boi and André 3000 showed Atlanta some love on "ATLiens," which has been sampled over the years by everyone from Vince Staples ("War Ready" in 2016) to Kid Cudi (2008's "Cleveland Is the Reason") and many more artists. Along with "Wheelz of Steel," "ATLiens" was released as a double A-side in August 1996 and went to number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track headed up the pioneering hip-hop duo's landmark second studio album of the same name, which was released by Arista Records and LaFace Records and clocked in at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart in 1996. The era-defining LP also yielded the Hot 100-charting singles “Elevators (Me & You)” and “Jazzy Belle."
