The country rock classic "Tulsa Time" was first recorded by American country music artist Don Williams on his 1978 album, Expressions. Written by musician Danny Flowers, who toured with Don Williams as a member of his backing band, the song came to be while they were stuck in a hotel in Oklahoma during a snowstorm. According to the singer-songwriter, Eric Clapton intended to record it first but Don Williams beat him to the punch. The song was released in October 1978 as the lead single from Expressions and proved massively successful for Don Williams, becoming the singer's eighth Number 1 song on the US country charts. Many artists would go on to cover "Tulsa Time" over the following years, including Eric Clapton, Reba McEntire, and Jason Boland & the Stragglers. In 2017, the country music supergroup Pistol Annies, consisting of country stars Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley, recorded a grittier version of "Tulsa Time" for the tribute album Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams, which also featured Brandy Clark, Dierks Bentley, Alison Krauss, and John Prine.
