Porno for Pyros' furry, swirling psychedelic rock trot "Pets" became a 1990s MTV staple, thanks to the zany video directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (who would go on to direct critically lauded 2006 tragicomedy Little Miss Sunshine). On "Pets," Porno for Pyros – a side project of Janes Addiction members Perry Farrell and Stephen Perkins – ponder the future of humanity. "Will there be another race / To come along and take over for us? / Maybe martians could do / Better than we've done / We'll make great pets!," they ask, blending their existential queries with indie-rock cool and effects-powered guitars. "Pets" made it to Number 67 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart as well as reaching Number 53 on the UK Singles Chart. The track also achieved some commercial success in Australia, clocking in at Number 68 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
