"Close Up the Honky Tonks" is a country song originally made famous by Buck Owens in 1964. Country artist Radney Foster recorded the classic for the AIDS benefit record Red Hot + Country. Although a little faster, and fuller in production, his version stays true to the cool vibe of the original. The title refers to wanting all honky tonks closed because the one he loves can't stay out of them. Foster was half of the country duo Foster & Lloyd. He and Bill Lloyd decided to form a duo after "Since I Found You," a song they wrote together, became a top ten hit for Sweethearts of the Rodeo. Foster has always been a fan of country music from the '50s and '60s so he sounds right at home on "Close Up the Honky Tonks."
The backing track for "Close Up the Honky Tonks" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
