“Forever and Ever, Amen” is a country music classic from the late 80s. It was written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, two of the most prominent country music songwriters of the era, penning hits for acts such as Alabama, Kenny Rogers, and The Judds. The title of the song came from a remark by Don Schlitz’s son, who told his mother “I love you forever and ever, amen.” This led to an impromptu songwriting session, and the song was done shortly afterward. American country music star Randy Travis recorded the tune for his second album Always & Forever (1987), produced by Kyle Lehning. “Forever and Ever, Amen” was released as the first single for Always & Forever, and it quickly became a hit (and Randy Travis’s third Number 1 single on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart). The song was awarded the Grammy for Best Country & Western Song in 1988, as well as Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.
