"Angels" is a song from English singer Robbie Williams' studio debut, Life thru a Lens (1997). The first incarnation of the track was written by Irish singer-songwriter Ray Heffernan, who put pen to paper after his partner suffered a miscarriage in 1996. Even though he and Robbie Williams recorded an early demo of that version, the former Take That member later rewrote the song with Guy Chambers using his deceased aunt and uncle as inspiration. To avoid a lawsuit, Robbie Williams bought the rights to the song from Ray Heffernan before its official release. "Angels" came out on December 1, 1997, and made it to Number 4 on the Official UK Singles Chart, Number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100, and entered the Top 10 in France, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland. In the years that followed, "Angels" went triple Platinum in the UK, becoming the best-selling single in Robbie Williams' career. It was also voted the best song of the previous 25 years at the 2005 Brit Awards.
